Over the years, PSS's objective has not changed, as it continues to keep itself relevant in supporting professional, amateur and student photography. Today, PSS has more than 2,000 members, and is an active corporate member of The People's Association, as well as an operational member of the International Federation of Photographic Art.

PSS is also concerned about the well being of the community and has also initiated projects such as "Harmony of Minds" and "Birds in the Garden City" which used photography to help raise funds for the needy. Beneficiaries included the President's Challenge. Dover Park Hospice, and SMRT Silver Tribute Fund.

The PSS raised $225,000 from its members, business associates and well wishers to equip the Centre with a splendid gallery, classrooms, a studio, a digital photo lab, darkrooms, and a multi-purpose hall. Since then, many activities were held at the Centre which included photography courses, seminars, exhibitions, studio sessions and slide shows.

The gallery on the third storey of the building was named Loke Wan Tho Gallery in memory of Dato Loke Wan Tho, former vice president and a distinguished member of the Society. His reputed work on bird studies together with the prestigious awards he had won in photography in the fifties were displayed at the gallery.

The gallery has since been the venue of many group and solo exhibitions of renown photographers, including PSS Honorary Life Member Lady Yuen Peng McNeice, Japanese Magnum photographer Hiroji Kubota and Members of Parliament: Mr Mah Bow Tan, Mr Sidek Sanif, Mr Ho Kah Leong and Mr Yatiman Yusof.
