The first International Photographic Exhibition was organized by The Photographic Society of Singapore in 1957.
One year later, in 1958, PSS held its first biennial Foto Fair in conjuction with the Salon.
The Salon was later renamed Singapore International Salon of Photography, or SIP.
The Salon was held annually and over the years, it witnessed the evolution of the various genres of photography,
from the darkroom techniques in the past such as solarisation, diazochrome etc to the present digital image manipulation.
It also witnessed fleeting images of days gone by as well as new images that push the photographers’ skills to the limit.
The Singapore International Salon of Photography (SIP) was renamed the Singapore International Salon of Creative Photography (SICP)
in 2000. And, from 2006 onward, it is known as Singapore International Photography Award (SIPA).
The objective of the recent name change is to brand SIPA as a salon different from the traditional ones,
while preserving the values it has inherited.
The Salon has also seen an increase in the number of sections especially in SIPA
to serve as a platform for photographers from different specialization to showcase their works.
