It is often said that a picture speaks more than a thousand words. Whether an image is in Colour or in Monochrome, whether it is on Nature or on Travel, the “thousand words” or message communicated by the photographer has no language barriers. Thus, photography can play an important role in helping to promote international goodwill and friendship.
The Singapore International Photography Award (SIPA) is one of the many initiatives of The Photographic Society of Singapore that are aimed at promoting the art of photography, as well as goodwill and friendship among photographers of different nations.
Over the years, SIPA has become a showcase featuring the works of photographers from different parts of the world. I am pleased to note that photographers from 42 countries have participated in this year’s event, and I would like to thank all the participants for their contributions to SIPA 2008.
I would also like to commend the Organising Committee for their dedication and efforts in ensuring the success of SIPA 2008. My appreciation also goes to the judges for the considerable time they have devoted to select the entries, and the advertisers and sponsors for providing the funding for this significant event.
