PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It is often said that a picture speaks more than a thousand words. Whether an image is in Colour or in Monochrome, whether it is on Nature or on Travel, the “thousand words” or message communicated by the photographer has no language barriers. Thus, photography can play an important role in helping to promote international goodwill and friendship.

The Singapore International Photography Award (SIPA) is one of the many initiatives of The Photographic Society of Singapore that are aimed at promoting the art of photography, as well as goodwill and friendship among photographers of different nations.

Over the years, SIPA has become a showcase featuring the works of photographers from different parts of the world. I am pleased to note that photographers from 42 countries have participated in this year’s event, and I would like to thank all the participants for their contributions to SIPA 2008.

I would also like to commend the Organising Committee for their dedication and efforts in ensuring the success of SIPA 2008. My appreciation also goes to the judges for the considerable time they have devoted to select the entries, and the advertisers and sponsors for providing the funding for this significant event.

SALON CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

Once again, The Photographic Society of Singapore is organizing the Singapore International Salon of Creative Photography. As chairman of the digital salon, I feel most delighted to announce that we received an overwhelming response of 2509 entries from 42 countries.

Over the years of organizing this event, I am pleased to say that our Digital Salon has attained international recognition in the photography world.

The digital medium will become a norm in the long term with increasing popularity and more entries are expected to be received due to its low submission cost. However, this international event will not be a success without the great support from the Organizing Committee and the volunteer helpers. I wish to take this opportunity to thank each one of them for their untiring efforts.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors, judges and supporting agencies, as well as to those who have in one way or another help to achieve success of this salon.
