SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD
 
The coveted Singapore International Photography Award is conferred to the participant who accumulated the most number of points from the various sections in one Salon. In case of a tie, the exhibitor who won more awards shall be declared the recipient. The breakdown of points as follows:

Memorial Gold Award – 8 points
FIAP Gold Medal – 7 points
FIAP Silver Medal – 6 points
FIAP Bronze Medal – 5 points
PSS Merit Award – 4 points
FIAP Honour Mention – 3 points
Memorical Award (Local Best) – 2 points
Acceptance –1 point

Achieving the Singapore International Photography Award is a demanding feat as the photographer should perform well in as many sections with as many awards and acceptances as possible, with stiff competition from photographers all over the world.

The Singapore International Photography Award 2006 winner is Josef Palfrader from Austria . His total score is a convincing 30 points, ahead of Indonesia 's Dedy H. Siswandi's 22 points and Singapore 's Gho Peng Tjin's 21 points.

 

Josef Palfrader’s performance in the SIPA 2006 as below:

  • 1 PSS Merit Award and 2 Acceptances in the Digital Colour Open Section
  • 1 PSS Merit Award and 2 Acceptances in the Digital Nature (Colour) Section
  • 1 Acceptance in the Digital Monochrome Open Section
  • 2 Acceptances in the Digital Travel (Colour) Section
  • 1 FIAP Gold Award, 1 FIAP Silver Award and 2 Acceptances in Digital Experimental Section
Josef Palfrader lives in Innsbruck , Austria and he is married with 2 children. He started taking pictures in his youth, but more of taking pictures of certain events for record purpose.

About 10 years ago, Josef began to be more serious with his hobby and started to submit works to national competitions and in 2002, he first participated in an international event, the 4° Salón Internacional de Imagen Virtual in Argentina, where he won awards in two sections which greatly motivated him to continue. Today, he has received over a thousand accepted submissions and over 250 awards from over 20 different countries.

Josef has a preference for digital image editing. He finds with this medium it is easier to implement one's ideas in different ways, to play with variations, light and shadows, viewpoints and depth, he says. To him, each picture is a new challenge; it has to be something new, something different.
